Docking Endorsement – ASA 118

No prior certification is needed for a Docking Endorsement but docking is certainly one of the more valuable skills one should master when handling a sailboat
How many times have you not seen people struggling when getting their boat back to the dock in adverse conditions? Docking should not be a spectators’ sport.

A few topics included in ASA 118:

• Docking safely
• Mooring in a slip
• Pre-departure preparations
• Shifting gears
• Undocking
• Backing out of a slip
• Heading bow out of a slip
• Parallel undocking
• Pre-docking preparations
• Backing into a slip; portside approach
• Backing into a slip; starboard side approach
• Much more like prop walk, prop wash, etc,

As part of the ASA 118 course, you will receive:

• The ASA sailing manual, Docking Techniques
• The ASA logbook to officially document your experience; and, upon completion of the course, an ASA decal showing your skill level
• Upon completion of ASA 118, an official Gulfcoast sailing and Cruising School certificate to mount and show off to your landlubber friends
• Ten percent off all future ASA classes with Gulfcoast sailing and Cruising School

The ASA 118 course is approved by the National Association of Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and the U.S. Coast Guard as a recognized Safe Boating Course. As such, it meets all requirements for mandatory education and licensing for every state in the United States.
